Back to school bra fitting

BACK TO SCHOOL BRA FITTING

It’s important to remember that girls should be fitted and measured as soon as there is sign of breast tissue, even if it is just for a crop top style.
It is advised that underwired bras should not be worn until the bust has fully developed, as wires can restrict and damage tissue growth.
As the bust grows it’s also important to invest in a sports bra.

In order to allow for future growth, the bra should be fitted on the tightest row of hooks, but remember to re-measure regularly as the bust continues to grow and develop.

Elleran Lingerie Chatswood Chase Sydney and Elleran Lingerie St ives offer professional bra fitting for teenage girls – we recommend you to visit one of our friendly bra fitting experts who will happily measure you and take you through all your style options. Take your mum along if you wish!

Elleran Lingerie Covers It All This Mother’s Day

The expert staff at Elleran are well versed in helping customers select the ideal present for their mum or partner, whether it be a beautiful bra and brief set or a less traditional gift.

This year, consider spoiling her with the Ginia pure silk dressing gown and Simone Pérèle pure silk chemise; a touch of luxury she would never buy for herself. Coupled with a hot bath and an evening of piece and quiet, this combination is pure bliss. Or, for a more practical present tinged with a little slice of extravagance, the Pure Ginia Silk Pyjama set is a wardrobe staple she will adore for years to come. Elleran is also the exclusive distributor of the elegant Féraud Paris sleepwear collection in Australia, which offers many perfect gift ideas.

For those mums who have sleepwear covered, Elleran’s gift guide doesn’t stop there. We have exquisite jewellery for the mum with an eye for quality and dazzle, on trend Autumn must haves like body suits for the mum with a penchant for style and a new range of sports wear for the energetic and active mum.

Men’s Guide for Lingerie Gifts

Mother’s Day, Christmas, birthdays – all wonderful opportunities to give a really special gift to the woman you love. If you’re brave enough, or have great advice from an expert, lingerie is the perfect way to show your appreciation for a girlfriend or spouse. Well, breathe easy boys – the experts at Elleran Lingerie have come up with a Men’s Guide for Lingerie Gifts.

Get Her Size

This seems obvious but it bears repeating. It doesn’t take an expert to recognise that you can’t win by getting your partner a lingerie set that is too small or too big. And while you probably don’t want to get caught going through her underwear draw either, its worth getting the size right to ensure your gift is perfect.

Remember Who You Are Buying For

Your taste and hers might be completely different – but if you are buying for a loved one its   her opinion that counts. Notice the underwear she loves to wear; many women have a favourite bra, often because its the most comfortable. If you your gift to become a favourite, notice the detail on this bra. Is it a full cup or half? Lacy or silky? What are the straps like? You don’t have to get her something too similar to what she already has, but a successful gift will be one she feels most comfortable in.

Be Open Minded About What Lingerie Is

What men and women consider to be lingerie is often very different. Your gift doesn’t necessarily need to include garters or racy undergarments. Body briefs, corsolets and simple bra and brief sets make beautiful gifts for the lady in your life. Stick to what you know she loves and will be comfortable in.

Listen to the Experts

If all else fails, consider asking an expert. The fitters at Elleran Lingerie have sold hundreds of sets of lingerie to women of all shapes, sizes and tastes and can be a great help in gift giving.

2017 Trends in Lingerie For Every Bra Size

This year’s lingerie trends are all about embracing your body whatever your shape or bra size. Fuller lingerie options rather than a bra and brief set are in style, channelling fashions from another era.

Curvy lingerie couture combines effortless chic with a sensual twist, making women of every bra size feel confident and beautiful. Accentuating womanly features is a trademark of Spring fashion on overseas runways whether you are an A cup or H and Elleran Lingerie has some beautiful pieces that work for every body type.

In fitting with this theme is another 2017 trend that further emphasises the beauty of the female form. Full body lingerie like corsolets, bustiers and body briefs are on trend this year, working to highlight the elegance and beauty of every bra size. Quality brands and luxurious products are the order of the day at Elleran, transforming women of every bra size from the everyday in their external clothing to an easy glamour underneath.

Following the same motif of body affirmation, comfort is a priority this year, with breathable fabrics making a comeback. Sports bras are front and centre of this trend and Elleran has every bra size covered here too.

Whatever your taste, whatever your size, inner beauty is the theme in 2017. Curves are embraced, beautiful full figure lingerie is a must and comfort reigns supreme.

Blog Post -Breast Cancer Survivors Find Support through Post Mastectomy Fitting

Much of the focus around breast cancer is on surviving – and rightly so. However, reaching the post surgery phase of recovering from breast cancer presents its own unique challenges. Survivors are confronted with a new body as well as new medical and physical requirements, and often the less tangible aspects of recovery can be overlooked. Body image is complex, and even those of use that haven’t had a significant alteration to the body we are used to can suffer a crisis of confidence from time to time – breast cancer, not surprisingly, can complicate a survivor’s sense of self esteem.

Post mastectomy bras and bra fitting can be a hugely important part of breast cancer survival for many patients. For women that elect not to undergo breast reconstruction following their surgery, breast forms and well fitted lingerie are a key part of their recovery. Most lingerie stores cannot provide this type of support, which requires not only specialised stock but also qualified post mastectomy bra fitters. Sizing and fitting the perfect breast form and selecting from a range of lingerie which accounts for post surgical drainage, scarring and wounds is a specialised skill. The breast form must look and feel natural, and be weighted appropriately in order to restore a woman’s confidence post surgery.

Fitting and bra selection are obviously front and centre – but rebuilding a customer’s body confidence is not just about breast forms and prostheses. Our quality certified post mastectomy bra fitters are sensitive to the needs of the customer in every way. We understand that the science behind the perfect post mastectomy bra fitting is fundamental to a patient’s recovery, but it should not overshadow their need to reclaim their femininity.

Blog Post – Flatter Yourself With Quality Lingerie Fit

Our Fitters’ Top 3 Tips

Finding your perfect fit can seem like an impossible task; studies have shown that up to 80% of Australian women are wearing the wrong size bra. That’s why our qualified fitters at Elleran can make a huge difference to our customers. Every breast is different in shape and size, and quality lingerie is the best way to flatter your figure.

We think our team is the best on the North Shore in Sydney, so we’ve asked them to give their Top 3 fitting tips.

  1. Style is important, not just for the look but also for the way your bra fits and the support it provides. For example, customers with a full breast at the front will need a full cup. Some breasts carry more weight underneath or at the side, and will require a style like the plunge balcony to push the breast up in order to provide a more subtle and natural looking cleavage. For women with a smaller breast, detail like lace or prints will create the illusion of extra volume.
  2. Quality Lingerie use a variety of features to support your unique body and flatter your beautiful figure. Wide straps can provide extra support for a full bust, but a softer more feminine wide strap in a quality fabric may also define an athletic figure. Rouching, frills and lace are other ways to add flattering detail.
  3. Underwear that accentuates your best features will often look different with clothes on. So when you come in for a fitting, make sure you choose your outfit wisely. For everyday quality lingerie, wear clothing you would wear everyday – a favourite t shirt or blouse. If you are after a particular piece to fit under an outfit for a special occasion, don’t forget to bring it with you. And of course, if you are looking for for a set that you want to look best on its own, (for Valentines Day maybe), remember it will look different without your clothes on.

How Does a Post Mastectomy Fitting Work?

Post mastectomy fitting is usually done 6-8 weeks after breast cancer surgery. At this time the incision at the surgical wound should have healed, and the surrounding muscle tissue will have recovered well enough to hold the weight of a prosthesis. Post mastectomy fitting is a valuable process for women that have had breast cancer surgery, but is also essential for women that have had breast conserving surgery. Whether a woman has partial tissue in one breast after a single mastectomy or no breast tissue on either breast following a double mastectomy, a qualified fitter of breast forms and post mastectomy lingerie can restore symmetry and body confidence. Prostheses vary from asymmetrical single sided breast forms, to partial prosthesis and double prostheses, with a huge range of sizes and shapes available.

First and foremost in the post mastectomy fitting, the process offer complete privacy and sensitivity. Initially, the fitter will assess the condition of the skin at the breast cancer surgery site. It is essential that the incision has healed, and that there is no drainage or open wounds. If this is the case, the fitter will require permission from the surgeon prior to proceeding.

Following the initial inspection, the fitter needs to determine the wearer’s appropriate bra size. Some breast cancer survivors choose to bring from home some old bras to aid in this assessment. During this part of the post mastectomy fitting, the fitter will take various measurements at strategic points around the rib cage and on the chest wall. It is strongly recommended that post mastectomy lingerie is used with breast forms and prostheses, although it is not mandatory. The fit determines how comfortable the prosthesis is, as well as how natural it looks.

A breast form will be recommended based on the shape and drape of the existing breast tissue, or the most flattering shape on the breast cancer survivor in the case of a double mastectomy. Prostheses can be teardrop, triangle, heart shaped or more, some are symmetrical and others are asymmetrical and side specific. At this point in the post mastectomy fitting the fitter will drape some fabric on the breast cancer survivor and show the patient what she looks like with the chosen product. Adjustments can be made until the breast cancer survivor feels comfortable and is satisfied with the outcome of the post mastectomy fitting.

Breast Forms and Prostheses

For many cancer survivors post mastectomy, the decision between prosthesis and reconstruction is a difficult one. While some choose surgery, many women opt for a prosthesis for myriad reasons; concern over the surgery or not meeting surgeon requirements for reconstruction, health issues, or anticipated problems during the recovery are just a few. Some women simply prefer not to undertake reconstruction procedures as a matter of choice. Breast Forms, or prostheses, are an essential part of breast cancer recovery for many women that haven’t yet or have chosen not to have a reconstruction. This is a decision best made with a patient’s oncologist and plastic surgeon. Many surgeons recommend visiting a qualified fitter, like the fitters at Elleran, prior to surgery to aid in making and feeling comfortable with their choice.

Prostheses are usually fitted 6-8 weeks after surgery to ensure maximum comfort and recovery of the patient. A good breast form that is well fitted by a professional shouldn’t feel too different to the wearer than their own breasts, though it may take time to acclimatise to a new body shape post mastectomy. The experience of fitting a prosthesis is fairly similar to being fitted for a bra, albeit it can be a more comprehensive process.

A good breast form fitter will recommend a prosthesis that will support a survivor’s body. For some women, there may be some tissue remaining of the breast and only a partial breast form is required post mastectomy. For others, there may be very little breast tissue remaining. Some women have a double mastectomy and require two breast forms, others have only the tissue of one breast removed. In this case, it is essential that the prosthesis fitted is well matched to the healthy breast. Elleran qualified fitters first note the shape and drape of an existing breast for women that have had a single mastectomy. For those that have had a double mastectomy, the fitter will make suggestions for a prosthesis that is flattering to the survivor’s shape.

Breast forms come in a large range of sizes and shapes, so despite the infinite variety of patient body types, in most cases it is possible to find one that achieves balance and symmetry with the remaining breast. Ideally, the fit of a prosthesis should be so comfortable that its wearer can forget she is wearing a breast form with post mastectomy lingerie, and feel confident and relaxed in her new shape. Elleran also offers an extensive range of bras that have prosthesis pouches, along with other features that make a post mastectomy fit more comfortable and durable.

Blog Post – How Post Mastectomy Fitting Works

Six to eight weeks post breast cancer surgery is the best time to visit a post mastectomy fitter. It is best to see a trained fitter who is familiar with different manufacturer products and has completed a manufacturer based education program to fit both prostheses and post mastectomy bras. Qualified fitters, like those employed at Elleran Lingerie, understand which products and brands will work best for different surgery types and circumstances.

Elleren Lingerie is passionate about offering customers complete privacy and discretion, particularly  post breast cancer. Your fitter will do an initial assessment and assess the skin condition at the site of the mastectomy.  This is to ensure there is no drainage or open wounds at the incision – if there are, they will need permission from your physician before proceeding. Next, the fitter will determine the correct bra size by taking measurements at particular points on the chest wall and near the rib cage. They will then offer a post mastectomy prosthesis recommendation which best reflects the shape and drape of the existing breast. For women that have lost both breasts, the fitter will make suggestions for a prosthesis that is flattering to the patient’s body.

There is a wide range of prostheses to select from – symmetrical, asymmetrical, tear drop, triangle, heart shaped and more. Once the correct prosthesis is chosen, the fitter will drape a piece of fabric over the patient to show them how she looks with the chosen products. Annual visits to a qualified fitter are recommended.

Amoena Bras and Breast Forms

Amoena was founded in 1975 by Cornelius Rechenberg, and is the first company to introduce revolutionary breast form innovations for breast cancer survivors. As industry leader, the company combines technology with luxurious comfort, offering an extensive range of bras, swimwear and breast symmetry products. The product lines match the needs of every woman and in particular, every breast cancer survivor post masectomy.

With a focus on innovation and product design, Cornelius continued to research ways to update the manufacturing process in order to create a form that felt more natural. Since its inception, Amoena has been dedicated to a woman’s overall wellness post mastectomy surgery, with a view to being a companion on their journey through breast cancer survival. Cornelius was the first in the industry to design breast forms using silicone and in 1984 he introduced a 2-layer breast form with a firm silicone ‘ring’ on the underside which stabilises the form within the bra, creating a new shape that more accurately reflects the anatomy of a woman’s breast.

Because of the continued commitment to producing a more natural feeling breast form, Amoena’s world-leading innovation has resulted in a long history of patented materials, products and manufacturing methods. All Amoena post mastectomy bras have the same texture, look and feel of a breast.

Amoena pocketed bras, breast forms and partial shapers are able to combine fashion fit and comfort that support a woman’s lifestyle post mastectomy. Close physical contact will not divulge the breast form beneath your lingerie, and the shape and contour of the bra restores natural shape. Breast forms are held securely, helping survivors feel confident about the way they look and feel. As surgery techniques for breast cancer and reconstruction evolve, women are able to demand more from their breast forms and breast form fitted bras.

Manufacturing is not the only way Amoena supports breast cancer survivors post mastectomy. Designing with intentional care, supporting relevant breast cancer charities and a strong and responsive social media presence, the brand endeavours to be a lifelong companion. Pushing the limits of scientific discovery, Amoena conducts extensive wear tests to ensure customer comfort, ease of use and suitability to different surgery types and lifestyles. The company also undertakes to be a responsible environmental steward across the wider market place, reducing its carbon footprint on a global level and working for others to do the same across their industry.
